The “Siddhanta Sekhara” states that the Narmada Shiva Lingams or Bana Lingas picked up from the Holy River Narmada have been worshipped by enlightened beings, especially by the Guardian Deities (Loka Pala). The Sacred Stones are still said to contain the impression of such worship over million of years.
There are Narmada Lingas carrying the different marks and characteristic of these Guardian Dieties:
